Skills Week 2024
On 1st July BHASVIC students embarked on a fantastic week as almost 2000 first year students benefited from hours of relevant work experience trips, short courses and more. The week featured approximately 1,500 work placements, 6 residential trips and 14 varied industry-based, ‘Plan B’ activities, accommodating the entire A1 cohort. Giving young people the opportunity to explore and source their own work experience in their self-chosen industries giving them valuable elements for them to progress into employment and after college. The principal even got involved, delivering the Carbon Literacy qualification to a cohort of students.
A host of local business, large and small, got involved in the week, giving students the opportunity to gain real-world experience. Whilst Plan B students were able to gain Mental Health First Aid training, develop their enterprise skills in support of a Sierra Leone charity, or get active with NCS and Concordia.
We wrapped up the week with our largest offer of activities, workshops, trips and lectures for Careers Enrichment Day, with every curriculum area offering something to inspire their students.
Thank you to our Student Experience and Centre Operations teams who have put months of work into planning Skills Week and to every business and organisation that took part. See you next year!
