Chris Whitty Delivers Lecture

We had the pleasure of hearing from Chief Medical Officer for England, and head of the public health profession, Professor Chris Whitty, about the future of health, healthcare and medicine in the UK. Prof. Chris Whitty’s talk was full of BHASVIC students and staff, as well as students from local schools and colleges including Varndean, Cardinal Newman and Brighton & Sussex Medical School, all engrossed with the fantastic lecture.

“I went to Chris Whitty’s lecture last week, it was amazing and really interesting to hear about the future of health in the UK. His explanation of issues the NHS has faced but also the successes was really insightful, and I really enjoyed the talk. Thank you to him, but also thank you to everyone who helped to organise it!!” Rose, Year 12 Student

”I found Sir Chris Whitty’s lecture incredibly fascinating and an invaluable insight as someone who is aspiring to be part of the future of medicine. The way that healthcare has been revolutionised in the past decades leading to immense changes in life as we know it is truly amazing and I felt so privileged to have gotten an insight into the both the past and the future of a field in which I am so passionate about from someone who has such a wealth of knowledge and experience.” Abisha, Year 13 Student

"I attended Chris Whitty’s lecture last Friday and I would like to share my thoughts. I found the lecture very interesting and very motivating for future health care workers as we now have a view of what our future healthcare could look like and this talk was very useful for all healthcare workers working in the NHS not just doctors and it was very inspiring as the whole healthcare team in the NHS can work together to provide a better future. The statistics shown in the lecture was very encouraging and interesting and motivates us as young people interested working in the healthcare sector to be able to be a part of a leading healthcare team. I found the AI part very intriguing since it means that AI
could take over any diagnostic scans, x-ray etc and this could change the NHS hugely for the better." Melanie, Year 13 Student
