BABAO carry out workshops with our Anthropology portfolio students
Two professors from BABAO (British Association for Biological Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology) attended BHASVIC to carry out some workshops with our Anthropology portfolio students. The students constructed the full human skeleton (see pics) and handled a real skeleton while discussing the methods anthropologists use to to discover the gender, age, diet, reasons for death of the person it belonged to. As well as discussing the ethics of anthropological research our students also got to handle a variety of skeletal matter to look at trauma and illness in the human body. This was a fascinating, hands-on and deeply enriching experience for these learners which not only showed an insight into the daily workings of biological anthropologists but also opened potential progression routes for these BHASVIC students too.
