Aidan Bryson, Y12 A level Music student, shortlisted in Commonwealth International Composition Award competition
Huge congratulations to Aidan Bryson who has made the shortlist of just ten young composers for the prestigious Commonwealth International Composition Award competition. Here Aidan explains the process:
“Last summer I attended the advanced instrumental composition course at the Sound and Music summer school at the Purcell music school. Our brief was to compose a piece for Flute, Clarinet, Violin and Cello which was performed and recorded by professional musicians at the end of the week. You can hear the recording of the piece I wrote, “The Inhabitants”, here.
After the course I entered "The Inhabitants" into the Commonwealth International Composition Award competition, and from many entries I was put onto the shortlist of just ten composers. All those on the shortlist were then commissioned to write pieces for Flute, Violin, Cello and Percussion. After many hours of work, I entered my piece. My composition will be performed in the Princess Alexandra Hall at the Royal Over-Seas League London on March 4th 2022, alongside nine other works from the other aspiring young composers, One composer will be chosen by the panel of judges as the winner of Commonwealth International Composition Award”.
