Enrichment opportunities in Chemistry

Chemistry Olympiad and Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

We offer students in the department the opportunity to take part in national competitions. The Cambridge Chemistry Challenge is sat by year 12 students in the summer term and the Chemistry Olympiad sat by students in year 12 and year 13 in January.  We typically have 80 students participate in these events with many achieving scores placing them in the top 25% of the students in the country.

Schools Analyst Competition

During the summer term students can enter for the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools Analyst Competition. This whole day practical activity requires students to use their practical skills to solve a novel problem. Details of this years competition are available here Schools Analyst Competition 2024 (bhasvic.ac.uk)

Student run societies

Our students are encouraged to set up their own societies each year. We currently have a Women in STEM group and a Chemistry for Life society. These students are supported by staff to get in visiting speakers.

Speakers

We have strong links with our local universities and hold regular talks for students.
