Why BHASVIC?

Following a full Ofsted inspection in December 2022 inspectors graded BHASVIC as ‘outstanding’ in all areas. This assessment followed the new inspection framework, placing a greater emphasis on students’ personal development and enrichment, and marks 10 years the college has been graded Outstanding. More about the Ofsted inspection. To back this up our most recent set of exam results placed us as the top performing non-selective sixth form college in the country.

Outstanding academic performance isn’t all we have to offer. In February 2023 BHASVIC won the prestigious Association of Colleges Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Beacon Award in partnership with FE Sussex. The Award recognised the success of the development and delivery of the Carbon Literacy course alongside initiatives including our student-led Climate Action Group, Green Careers Week, ‘Teach the Teacher’, and embedding of climate issues into curriculum delivery. ESD is strategically embedded in the college’s identity, ethos and practice; supporting staff and curriculum development and student voice as we progress our NetZero and Roadmap Action Plans. Alongside a strong moral purpose, the ESD work is collaborative, aspirational, innovative and strategic, benefitting from strong support from our governing board.

In March 2023 we were delighted to be awarded College of Sanctuary status by Sanctuary on Sea. This achievement represents the commitment of our college community to supporting refugees and people seeking asylum, and to help raise awareness about migration and why people seek safety amongst our students, staff and the wider community. We are committed to continuing this work and contributing to Brighton & Hove being a safe space for all.

Our enrichment continues to expand year with over 50 student-led clubs and societies complementing our broad curriculum, sport and performing arts enrichment. Our Student Union organise a range of celebration and engagement events throughout the year to ensure all students have the opportunity to feel part of our vibrant community.

Finally, at the heart of everything we do is supporting our students effectively. We have an outstanding Additional Learning Support Department. Our Personal Tutors and Guidance Teams offer exceptional pastoral care for every student throughout their journey with us. Whilst our Student Services including Careers, Counselling, Widening Participation, Welfare and more are their for every student whatever their need.
