A BHASVIC teacher speaks to students

BHASVIC Open Evenings 2024

Wednesday 13th & Thursday 14th November, 4pm - 8pm 2024

We hope you will come along to our open evenings and have the opportunity to visit all areas of the college that interest you. Use the link below to let us know you are going to come along.

Registration for our Open Evenings is now closed. You do not need to register to attend so please come along between 4pm and 8pm on Wednesday 13th or Thursday 14th November. You can find more information about the openings, including map and layout below.

Open evenings feature representation from every subject offered at BHASVIC with teaching staff and students available to speak to attendees alongside a range of resources from the courses. Other areas of the college including enrichment and student support are also represented. The Principal delivers a talk in our Main Hall at various times throughout the evenings to ensure all attendees are able to access it.

Across both our open evenings, 4pm - 5pm is likely to be a much quieter time so we are recommending this slot for those who would like to see the college with fewer people around. Whilst we know this will not be possible for everyone, this time may be appropriate for those with neurodiversity or social barriers such as anxiety. Our Additional Learning Support (based in Copper Building, First Floor, Room 411), and Student Support & Pastoral teams (Copper Building, Ground Floor) work throughout both evenings to provide support and advice for each student at any time during the events.

Tips for your Visit

Travel

Please, wherever possible, travel to our open evenings by public transport. There is no parking onsite and parking on the streets near the college is extremely difficult. There are public car parks in the city within a 10-15 minute walk.

Before your visit

  1. Think about all the subjects you are interested in and make a note of where they are.

  2. Don’t forget you can go wherever you want, and you may see something of interest and simply pop in and take a look.

  3. Talk with your parent/carer about the questions you want answered and think about how and where to ask these.

  4. Check you have the map saved on your phone to refer to on the night.

Arriving

  1. You can enter BHASVIC from many directions – look at the map above.

  2. Try not to queue to enter – pick an alternative entrance if the one you have gone to is busy

  3. If you want advice first head to the Copper Café – we’d love to meet you and help you out.

  4. If you are confident with the layout, head to the first subject you’d like to visit

  5. Look at the timings of the Principal’s Talk – plan which one you want to go to – we encourage you to come to one of these.

Visiting a Course and Department

  1. Talk to the BHASVIC students – they will give you an ‘on-the ground’ sense of what the course covers, what the resources are like and the pacing and content of the course.

  2. Try not to visit too many subjects – this can be a little overwhelming.

  3. Take a break between subjects – we have a café with hot food, biscuits and free hot drinks.

  4. Take some time to explore information on college life and community including Additional Learning Support, Enrichment, Tutorial, and Careers Support

Next steps

  1. Our online application form is now open but we encourage people to attend an open evening before applying as this helps you decide what you want to study with us.

  2. If you’d like to apply to BHASVIC make sure you submit your online application by our priority deadline of Friday 6th December.

  3. If you meet our priority deadline we will invite you in for an interview between December and February. This is conversational and supportive, giving us a chance to find out more about you and what you want to study, and for you to ask questions.

  4. Any questions about our admissions process please speak to our Admissions team at our Open Evenings (based in the Copper Café) or email admissions@bhasvic.ac.uk
