National Careers week in Physics. First-year physics students meet with scientists working in STEM careers

As part of National Careers week our first-year physics students had the chance to meet with scientists working in STEM careers. During a one hour ‘speed dating’ session they met in school groups with an engineer completing a degree apprenticeship, a chartered engineer working in the water industry, a computer scientist and a student in product design who previously worked in the welding and blacksmith industry. This event was arranged on behalf of our female physics society (Hypatia society) but was open to all students in the department. The Hypatia society are currently looking forward to a busy Spring and Summer term with talks from female scientists and a visit to the National Physical Laboratory in the pipeline.
